Had a great paddle today at Candlewood Lake! At 10:30 I met up with Dixie, Mike, Ron, Anne, Karen, and Jeff in a variety of boats... by my count we were 7 boats, 4 longboats, two 12-14 foot rec/touring boats, and a SOT. We paddled out of the boat launch near Squantz Park, paddled out of the cove there, "hung a left" and then headed north to the first large island out there, where we landed for snack time before circling the rest of the island and heading back. The boat traffic wasn't horrible, but heavy enough that a few of us had fun times charging and surfing the wakes. Good times ;D Shortly before the end of the paddle a few of us swapped boats around just to see how the other half lives. Was interesting and fun although it did result in one unplanned wet exit... oops! Was fun meeting some new people and paddling around today, beautiful weather for it. Anne did an especially impressive job, as she's new to paddling but covered a pretty respectable amount of miles on a SOT kayak that was stable and comfortable, but pretty high-effort as far as paddling goes. WTG! I only got a few pics with my cellphone camera but here they are... Here's the crew shortly after launch... Check out the big blue heron nearby, just off the brim of Dixie's hat. The heron finally got tired of our act and took off, you can see it just off the edge of the island. Not sure what I was trying to get here, I think this was the big island we landed on tho. Great paddle everyone, thanks for coming!

Thanks Dixie! I actually have a new waterproof camera on-order, but I must admit that the cellphone cameras are better than some digital cameras I've owned not too many years ago! I just hate having to keep the cellphone stowed in a waterproof bag when I'm not using it, and having to dig it out when something good is going on... :oSUPER PIC FROM A CELL PHONE, RICK! I wonder if mine can do that well. Dixie
